Research: Probiotics and direct fed microbials in poultry

Combined American/Argentinean research looked at the effects of using probiotics/direct fed microbials for salmonella control in poultry. In this paper the researchers summarise the safety and efficacy of individual monocultures for prophylactic and/or therapeutic efficacy against Salmonella infections under both laboratory and field conditions.

They also describe the development of novel, cost-effective, feed-stable direct fed microbials (DFM) with potential for widespread utilisation and improved production, delivery and clinical efficacy for animal use.
