For the 15th time since the beginning of 2010 animal feed producers in Vietnam have sent registrations to the Ministry of Finance to increase prices, the ministry has reported. The request is in response to the continued rise in prices of raw materials. Le Ba Lich, chairman of the Vietnam Animal Feed Association, said the price of corn is currently up from US$240 (UK£145.552) to US $280 (UK£169.81) per tonne. Meanwhile, the price of Soya oil cake has risen from US$420 (UK£254.715) to US$450 (UK£27.291) per tonne.
The devaluation of the dong has also greatly affected the industry as the country imported 60 percent of all raw material. For this reason, restructuring, cost cutting and strong co-operation among related stockholders had been the most important measures to help protect producers.
