Banned drug was used more than Taiwan agency thought

The authorities in Taiwan now believe that the banned drug ractopamine was used on more pigs than originally thought. Ractopamine a leanness-enhancing drug was made from beta-agonist a drug smuggled in from China. The drug was sold to the pig farmers and generated NT$50 million (€1.22 million).

Five members of a drug ring were arrested, originally 147,500 pigs were thought to have had ractopamine administered to them, but authority now believe its closer to 750,000 pigs. Read more ...
