Canadian Wheat Board to take legal action against federal government

The board of director's of the Canadian Wheat Board (CWB) are taking legal action against the federal government in defence of prairie farmers democratic rights. The CWB says the federal government did not conduct a plebiscite of affected producers when it introduced legislation to repeal the CWB powers. "Not only is this government ignoring farmers' wishes, it plans to fire the 10 directors who are elected directly by farmers to run the CWB," said Allen Oberg, chair of the CWB's farmer-controlled board of directors.
