06/08/2013: First organic grain drying and storage facility; Maizall unveils new website; plans for pest encyclopaedia

The first organic grain drying and storage facility has opened in Avinurme, Estonia, helping to bridge the gap in a scarce organic production chain.

It is hoped that the new facility, which will dry and store grain from all over the country, will help increase the share of the organic grain products marketed in Estonia.

The International Maize Alliance (Maizall) has announced the formation of its new website.  

The website will provide background information on Maizall, including a memorandum of understanding between its allied organisations, ABRAMILHO (Brazilian Association of Corn Producers), the National Corn Growers Association, and the U.S. Grains Council.

It will also provide news releases, including presentations, articles and studies on biotechnology and modern farming practices as well as access to various resources on food security, global biotech adoption and links to government and non-government organisations.

The Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) has issued a call to researchers for a new encyclopaedia-style guide to managing pests across arable and field crops. 

The proposed publication would act as a reference source on managing pests and would benefit all growers and agronomists.

Proposals to conduct the work must be sent to AHDB by 30th August 2013. The new publication is  planned to launch at Cereals 2014 in Cambridgeshire, UK.
