04/12/13: Five agency programme on food safety; Romania's pork exports; GrainCorp executive resigns

According to an independent review released on 29 November 2013, the role of the Standards and Trade Development Facility (STDF) has been described as "impressive" and "highly relevant".

The STDF is a global partnership that assists developing countries implement sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) requirements - standards for food safety and animal and plant health - through increased awareness and knowledge of good practices.

As of 1 January 2014, Romania will be permitted to resume pork exports to the European Union (EU), reported Romania's National Sanitary, Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA) recently.

Pork and live pig exports to the EU have been restricted since 2003 following the outbreak of Classical Swine Fever (CSF).

Following the Australian federal government's decision to block a AUD$3.4 billion takeover bid for grain commodity company GrainCorp, Alison Watkins, chief executive has announced her resignation.

Watkins will take over a chief executive of Sydney based company Coca-Cola Amatil- one of the largest bottlers of non-alcoholic beverages in the Asia-Pacific region.
