20/12/13: Blumberg grain project in Nigeria; grain marketing webinars; appeal to end foie gras production

Food storage system firm Blumberg Grain has been awarded a project to expand food security and storage in Nigeria, the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has announced. 

The project will call for the turn-key installation of Blumberg Grain warehousing systems and technology for perishable and dry storage.

The Ohio State University Extension, a branch of Ohio State University, USA is offering a series of webinars based on grain marketing. 

The courses - which are due to take place on 7 and 21 January, 4 and 18 February and 4 March - will offer participants the chance to experience simulations using options commonly used in grain marketing.

With the festive season now in full swing, foie gras is working its way up the christmas menu.

Animal rights campaigners however, are asking shoppers to boycott the controversial French delicacy. 

Marie Pierre Pe, a spokeswoman from the Interprofessional Committee of Foie Gras waterfowl (CIFOG), said producers were determined to be more open and transparent about the most controversial aspect of foie gras production - a process which involves inserting a tube down the bird's throat and pumping a grain mix into the stomach - reported British newspaper the Guardian.
