Despite the insecurity insurgency in northern Nigeria, the Federal Government has reiterated its resolve to have a wheat bumper harvest by 2015, thereby halving imports through local production.

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr Akinwumi A. Adesina, says in promoting the event that "with dwindling oil fortunes and the end of the telecom's boom" the next investment frontier is agriculture that will unlock the country's vast potential and resources to feed not only the continent of Africa but also the world! He says the future is not in oil but in agriculture.

Paul Gbededo, Group Managing Director of Flour Mills of Nigeria, reiterates the sentiment by saying that aquaculture is the future and that "whoever does not join the train now will be left behind."

Nigeria's agricultural sector is being reshaped and reinvigorated as the center of the country's economic growth and prosperity. The key challenges facing this new chapter of sustainable intensification and productivity are widespread.

Modernisation, new ideas and new technology are required across all aspects of agricultural practice. Significant improvements in infrastructure, storage, distribution and waste management must also be introduced.

Agra Innovate is a pioneering new trade event which will bring international agricultural technology providers to Lagos to spend three intensive days with key Nigerian dignitaries, policy makers, agribusiness leaders and entrepreneurs. Together, this audience will identify key business opportunities, technological solutions, share best-practice and form the strategic relationships that will drive this new period of market growth.
