20/03/2015: Growing the crop revolution at the Alltech REBELation

Today, more than 800 million people face hunger and malnutrition. As the population grows, food production will have to increase by approximately 60 percent by 2050. How do we feed, fuel and support the growing world population? What is the hidden potential in soil? Will plants be the pharmaceutical factories of the future? Is orange juice at risk of extinction due to citrus greening? These questions and more will be explored during Crop Science: Growing the Revolution symposium at the Alltech REBELation, May 17-20 in Lexington, Kentucky, USA.

“Currently, 33 percent of world soils are under severe pressure from human activities, which degrade and sometimes eliminate essential soil functions,” said Dr Karl Dawson, vice president of research, Alltech.

This year the UN General Assembly declared 2015 the International Year of Soils, and Alltech will highlight its importance in the food chain. Soil is a non-renewable natural resource that plays a pivotal role in the agriculture industry, yet it does not have a voice.
