11/08/2015: The T-TIP of the iceberg?

AHDB Cereals & Oilseeds annual flagship Grain Market Outlook Conference will this year take a look at possible impacts of TTIP negotiations on farming and food producers.

Negotiations between the European Union and the USA on the regulations affecting big business trade across the Atlantic are in full swing.

The bilateral trade agreements, known as TTIP (the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership), would impact food safety laws, environmental legislation and banking regulations.

Jack Watts, AHDB Lead Analyst, said: “Longer-term, trade policy is back in the spotlight with the EU and US embarking on one of the most ambitious trade agreements known to man – the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership. What will be the implications for the food and grain industries?”

This question, and more, will be investigated during AHDB Cereals & Oilseeds’ Grain Market Outlook Conference on 14 October 2015 in London.

As the tenth round of recently negotiations took place in Brussels, the second stage of the trade deal is well under way. The parties involved hope to come to a decision at some time in 2015.

Speaker Dominic Watkins from DWF LLP will give a general introduction to the potential partnership, with an impartial look at the headlines, both positive and negative, during his presentation "TTIP - the good, the bad and the ugly".

Other papers at the Grain Market Outlook Conference 2015 will include analyses of the grain and oilseeds markets, and a look at the macroeconomics of the coming season.

Mr Watts added: “We’re now in a shrinking world with growing markets, seeing the influence of politics and trade. The issues in Greece and China bring the global economy back into focus, as well as converting volatile exchange rates into volatile grain prices.
