China’s economic woes could affect US soybean farmers
China’s economic downturn and increased competition from overseas exporters is causing concern among US soybean producers. 


Viterra buys eastern Canada’s largest oilseed plant
Viterra has agreed to buy eastern Canada’s largest oilseed crushing plant from Felda Global Ventures Holdings for US$143 million. 


DuPont Pioneer expands Indiana research centre
DuPont Pioneer has announced the expansion of its research and development centre in Windfall, Indiana focused on breeding and testing programs for corn, soybeans and wheat.

USDA and WISHH partner on Ghanaian poultry and feed project
The USDA and the American Soybean Association’s World Initiative for Soy in Human Health (WISHH) have partnered on a major project to develop Ghana’s poultry and feed sectors.

We Have Heard:

  • Biofuels Digest reports that Japan’s NKY has contracted with United Green for partial ownership of a canola field on the Sanriku shoreline – an area that suffered significant damage from the earthquake and resulting tsunami in 2011. United Green has implemented a recovery program involving this canola field and the oil produced from the field will be marketed under the brand name Yuicco.
  • On August 25, Ukraine’s Agricultural Policy and Food Minister, Oleksiy Pavlenko wrote on his twitter feed that Ukraine will reach the largest monthly cash proceeds from grain sales in December at US$850 million.
  • APS state news reports that Algeria’s 2015 grain harvest has reached 4 million tons – up 14.3 percent year on year, according to the head of the country’s grain agency, OAIC.
  • Ending global grain inventories of combined wheat and coarse grains will increase by 2 million tons to reach a 29-year high of 447 million tons in 2015/16, according to the International Grains Council.
