  • The Australian Department of Agriculture and Food’s MyCrop app now includes a variety selector, which includes information on old and new varieties of wheat and barley taken from sowing guides for Western Australia, according to Senior Research Officer, Sally Peltzer.

  • A report published by ecologists Josiah Maine and Just Boyles on September 14 in Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, states that bats help protect corn from pests and fungal infections by eating corn earworm moths. When access to an Illinois corn field was blocked to bats, the corn within the field contained 56 percent more damaged kernels and 59 percent more corn earworm larvae compared to unblocked fields.       
  • Representatives of Mexico’s soybean traders, processors, and a dairy farm are touring the states of Nebraska, Iowa, South Dakota, and North Dakota, with the goal of building relationships within the industry, and to observe how U.S. soybeans are grown and processed. The tour has been organized by the states’ soybean boards and Ag Processing Inc.
  • Abares, Australia’s official crop bureau, lifted its estimate for the country’s 2015/16 wheat exports on a July to June basis by 1.07 million tons to 17.52 million tons, representing a year on year increase of 1 million tons.
