Behn + Bates at the Anuga FoodTec in April

Anuga FoodTec is one of the world's only supplier fairs, it covers all aspects of food production. Here, the industry presents its latest innovations and technological visions - from process technology to filling and packaging technology to food safety, from packaging materials to digitalisation and intralogistics. Set to take place April 26-29, 2022 in Cologne.

With a premium location at the entrance in Hall 8, Stand A-020, Behn + Bates - the specialist for packing and filling technology in the food industry - is presenting itself along with its sister companies Feige Filling and Newtec Bag Palletising.

Together these companies' technologies ensure the "perfect flow": from filling to palletising and to digital production mapping and management system.

The motto of the exhibition stand is Zero Hunger. Behn + Bates, Newtec Bag Palletising and Feige Filling support the UN Sustainable Development Goals, in particular the ambition that by 2030 no human being should have to suffer from hunger and malnutrition. As specialists in the filling and packing of food, the companies see themselves as having a particular responsibility here.

Turbine packing machine – filling technology for fine-powder products
Behn + Bates is presenting a turbine packer module at the trade fair. The packer can be used to effectively and cleanly fill fine powder products such as starch, flours and cocoa into valve bags. Its hygienic design and the gentle pneumatic filling system are optimally geared to the food industry. Worth mentioning here is the special Behn + Bates filling nozzle, which already removes the air out of the bag during filling, thus ensuring high filling capacities with low internal bag pressure and minimised dust accumulation. The packing machine can be expanded with additional components such as ultrasonic sealing stations or metal detectors. Automatic residual emptying for easy product changeovers is also offered. Fill weights from 5kg to 50kg are possible. The machine can be equipped as a Roto-Packer with up to 10 filling spouts and fill up to 2500 (25-kg) bags per hour.

Air-fill principle for high-care products
For baby food and milk powder, strict regulations apply for the manufacturing and packing process to avoid contamination with bacteria. With the award-winning ADAMS® Care-Line-Edition, Behn + Bates now offers a new type of filling machine for these products in which a hygiene design in accordance with the EHEDG guidelines has been fully implemented. The product is conveyed into the bag via sterile air, and not via moving parts. The packaging material used is pure, recyclable PE film, which is double-layered so that an outer sack that is contaminated during transport can be separated from the clean inner sack. Moreover, the ADAMS® Care-Line-Edition is characterised by a new function for processing the PE film: The bag walls are completely welded together at the top edge without leaving any fold beyond the weld seam, where deposits of product residues and microorganisms could occur. This function of the edge-tight film-seam welding has been registered for patent by Behn + Bates.

The 'hybrid bag' – two worlds are unified
When filling powder products into bags, the valve bag's advantages outweigh its disadvantages. The product can be conveyed quickly and cleanly into the bags via the valve opening. With rotating packing systems, more than 2000 (25 kg) bags can be filled each hour. In many markets, however, sewn open-mouth bags are common and so Behn + Bates now offers the solution for customers who want to combine the filling technology of the valve bag with the appearance of the sewn open-mouth bag. These "hybrid bags" can be made of paper or woven PP and supplied for filling flours and animal feeds, for example. A tear strip enables easy opening of the paper bags.

Maximise customer profits with PRO-Check
Behn + Bates uses the new PRO-Check approach to examine the potential of its customers' processes. The aim is to optimise machines, systems and plants so that they can operate even more successfully and profitably. PRO-Check includes a look at process engineering, consulting on packing execution, spare parts, conversion and modernisation management.

Digital mapping and value chain optimisation
Behn + Bates also focuses on the QUAT2RO® Production management system. It enables packing, loading and mixing systems to be particularly optimised through digital networking. This is displayed, evaluated and achieved based on the intelligent and holistic networking of all production steps and their integration into the logistical and organisational processes of the company. From weighing, filling, checking and labelling various loose, bulk materials and liquids to palletising or packing, the entire value-added chain is digitally mapped by the production management system. QUAT2RO® Production thus overcomes the boundaries between the ERP system and production and opens up completely new dimensions for production optimisation.

ELEMENTRA – the perfect entry model
Feige Filling is presenting the ELEMENTRA 14 mobile semi-automatic package filling station. Cost-effective, quickly available and ready for immediate use, the ELEMENTRA 14 offers customers from the food and pharmaceutical industries all the advantages of an entry-level model. The station is set up energy-efficiently to the desired package height by an electric lifting unit. Highly viscous foodstuffs such as ketchup, jam or fats can be filled excellently with this design. But also thin-bodied products can also be packed by the corresponding filling unit without any problems. The ELEMENTRA is designed for package sizes of 1 kg to 60 kg. A special highlight is the new FEIGE WEB HMI. Gesture control and multi-touch await the user. The innovative design enables rapid orientation and reduces the need for training. Help texts are extended with pictures, videos and comment function. The ELEMENTRA 14 package filling station can be upgraded at any time, e.g. with an extensive conveyor system.

Newtec Bag Palletising – solutions for the end of the production line
For many years, Newtec Bag Palletising has been developing and producing palletising systems that are characterised by their gentle bag handling. For outputs of up to 1,000 bags/hr, the space-saving TERRAM palletisers can be used. The palletisers require very little maintenance and are accessible at all levels. Together with Feige Filling and Behn + Bates, complete storage, packing and loading systems for loose materials in bulk and liquids are offered in premium quality from a single source. Customers have one contact person and benefit from the expertise of an entire system chain.
