A Memorandum of Understanding was signed regarding cooperation in the agricultural sector for $400 million

During the international conference on reforms in Ukraine held in the Swiss city of Lugano, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, Syngenta LLC and Adama Ukraine LLC.

The memorandum will contribute to ensuring food security in Ukraine and beyond, as well as improve the conditions of conducting economic activities for agricultural producers of Ukraine and its signatories.

Cooperation worth $400 million will be carried out in the form of joint support and activities, investment and implementation of projects, including legislative initiatives aimed at bringing the legislation of Ukraine into line with the legislation of the European Union in the agro-industrial complex.

In particular, "Syngenta" LLC and "Adama Ukraine" LLC agreed that they will continue to support employees and their family members who suffered from the aggression of the Russian Federation by providing them with asylum and humanitarian aid, both in the territory of Ukraine and abroad, and as well as payment of market wages.

In addition, they will sell the company's products to small farmers during martial law and invest in logistics infrastructure to improve and expand export routes for agricultural products, as well as resume sea exports as soon as it is safely possible.

The companies will also support and develop innovative, research and educational projects with relevant research and educational institutions in the fields of soil health, carbon footprinting, biodiversity conservation and other areas related to supporting innovation in agriculture. In particular, they will supply the market of Ukraine with high-quality plant protection products and provide agricultural producers located in Ukraine with seeds and plant protection products on the conditions of full or partial payment deferral and at the expense of the producers' fulfillment of the terms of commodity agricultural receipts and other types of ensuring the fulfillment of obligations.

Separately, the companies will support joint working groups created to facilitate the adaptation of the legislation of Ukraine to the legislation of the European Union in the field of agro-industrial complex.

In turn, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, within the limits defined by the current legislation of Ukraine, will participate in the processing and development of relevant normative legal acts and will facilitate communication with authorised state institutions regarding the fulfillment of obligations by subjects of economic activity.

"The support of our country's agriculture by the leading market players is currently an important task," emphasises the Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Markiyan Dmytrasevich. "That is why cooperation, which is the subject of this Memorandum, in the form of joint support and implementation of projects, including legislative initiatives aimed at bringing Ukrainian legislation into line with EU legislation in the agro-industrial complex, as well as creating favorable conditions for economic activity, will be a guarantee the development of the agricultural industry to guarantee the food security of our country and the world."
