European legislation threatens agriculture exports from US

To maintain country-to-country relationships, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is working to meet requests from the European Union (EU) to confirm the safety of US products. A current testing initiative conducted by FDA began with an audit conducted by the EU's Food and Veterinary Office last October. The results of the EU testing showed that the United States was not in compliance with several of the group's antibiotic regulations. "Unfortunately, when the EU came over and audited our drug residue program in the United States, we didn't do as well as we had hoped on it," she remembers. Read more ...

Fefana launches electronic classification tool

Fefana Europe's organisation for specialty feed ingredients launched its electronic Classification Tool aiming at differentiating feed additives from feed materials. The distinction between feed additives and feed materials has critical implications for the placing of these products in the European market.

Making the wrong choice can have severe legal and practical consequences both for the company placing a product on the market or for those using it. The legal status of any type of feed in the EU is mainly determined by the definitions contained in Regulations (EC) No. 1831/2003 on feed additives and (EC) No. 767/2009 on the marketing of feed. It's here - PPLAPP has arrived

PPLAPP - Perendale Publishers Limited Application

PPLAPP goes live today! PPLAPP is a new mobile application from Perendale Publishers Limited (the publishers of the International Milling Directory - IMD) but with a difference.

For milling industry representatives with smart phones and/or tablets, the data within the IMD is now readily available on the move.

“It is so convenient that users will be able to search on a company by its name or the product/service it provides and immediately call or email that company from within the application,” says Roger Gilbert, the managing director of Perendale Publishers Limited.

This is a first for the milling industry - and is suitable for all those working in the field of flour, rice, cereals, oilseeds, animal and fish feeds and other milling operations who might need to know international suppliers of products and services at any time, he adds.

“It’s a industry specific telephone book that you can use on the move and talk to those suppliers who have the products/services you are interested in. We are hopeful that PPLAPP will become an industry standard resource.

“It’s free for companies to list their products/services and it’s free for industry personnel and others to use. Simply download and install it!

“Companies who do not yet appear in the listings can register by visiting the regular website (at www.internationalmilling.com) and requesting registration details while users of the application can download it onto their smartphones or tablets at mobile.internationalmilling.com. If you inadvertently visit the IMD website using your smart phone or tablet you will have the option to install the application when connected,” he adds.

“We are very excited about this new development and look forward to developing PPLAPP’s functionality further in 2012 to provide industry with a really useful resource,” says Mr Gilbert.

One day to go to the LAUNCH of 'PPLAPP'

Our pelleting knowledge and technical engineering expertise

2011 has been a great year for Sizer and we are hoping that 2012 will be even better!
Despite a difficult start to the year with the worldwide economic downturn, we had an excellent response when exhibiting at Victam International, Cologne in May. Contacts made during the show have led to us securing agents/customers in new European markets, which have made a very welcome addition to our existing worldwide network.

In view of this success, we are excited to be exhibiting at Victam Asia 2012 in Bangkok. The last time we exhibited at Victam Asia was in 1991, so our long awaited return is drawing close and preparations are well underway. Our aim for Victam Asia 2012 is to secure new agents/distributors for our comprehensive range of pellet press spare parts in the Asian market areas not already covered.

As well as spares for our own Orbit Pellet Press range, we also offer parts to suit many other manufacturers such as CPM, Buhler & Simon Barron. We even supply parts discontinued by other manufacturers, giving you peace of mind that you’ll have continuity of availability.

Our pelleting knowledge and technical engineering expertise combine together allowing us to offer solutions that not only suit our customers’ needs but help them deal with their challenges and remain at the forefront of their industry.

Our Commercial Manager, Suzanne Birley is leading the team for the Victam Asia 2012 exhibition. Suzanne has been with the Sizer Ltd for eight years and manages the International Development of the company.  She will be available on our stand for the full duration of the show.

We look forward to a successful show and to seeing you there!

Feed stuffs may still contain ergot

Researchers from Ghent University Belgium, carried out a study on ergot alkaloids in cereals intended for human consumption and animal feeding. Ergot alkaloids are mycotoxins produced by fungi of the Claviceps Genus, mainly by Claviceps purpurea. Infections are mostly prevalent in cereals and wild grasses. Although nowadays effective cleaning procedures at mills allow removing up to 82 percent of ergots from grain, ergot alkaloids can still be found in feed and food commodities, sometimes at relatively high levels.
