Queue Plus software wins GRAPAS commended product at VICTAM ASIA 2012

Agentis Innovations and their strategic partner TAT Energy and Engineering are proud to receive recognition for their innovative feedmill software Queue-Plus as a commended product in the GRAPAS award during VICTAM Asia 2012.

Roger Gilbert presents the GRAPAS commended product award for Queue Plus to Yiannis Christodoulou (President Agentis Innovations) and Channarong Preechakul (Managing Director TAT)

According to Agentis Innovations President Yiannis Christodoulou, “we understand the complexity of raw material and finished feed transport in Asia Pacific because of the reliance on bagged products”. Recognising this fundamental and important difference in the operation of many Asian feedmills, Queue Plus was developed to provide an accurate estimated time to pick up and load each truck and the number of bags for each feed type to be loaded.

This innovation helps to schedule the most efficient delivery assignment for all drivers and trucks andreducingon-site trafficcongestion. Queue Plus ensures the best utilisation of feed distribution staff to expedite the load out process and eliminate human error.

Yiannis said that “Agentis Innovations and TAT work closely with customers to understand their specific needs in terms of the degree of automation required within the feed production process, the supporting hardware and data reporting formats”. As a result of our technology and market approach we are realising strong demand for our complete feed mill automation control system, Smart Feed Mill”.

Press Release: Anpario Acquires Meriden Animal Health Limited

Feed additi
Anpario plc, one of the leading suppliers of natural high performance feed additives to enhance health, growth and sustainability in global agriculture and aquaculture markets, has acquired Meriden Animal Health Limited ("Meriden"). The acquisition of Meriden brings another strong trading brand to the Anpario Group, broadening its product technology and increasing Anpario's global market share in the feed additive sector.

Meriden, based in Bedfordshire in the United Kingdom, supplies the global agriculture and aquaculture markets with natural animal feed additive products. Meriden’s Orego-Stim range of products, using essential oils, is the leading brand in its field and is marketed across 60 countries worldwide, with the majority of sales being outside the United Kingdom.

Meriden typically supplies through distributors in the local territories. It also has a technical support team based in a representative office in Malaysia and a joint venture company in Australia. Meriden's sales for the 12 months to December 2011 were UK£5.35 million (US$8.569 million).

Meriden has a close and important partnership with its China operation with sales accounting for 26 percent of Meriden’s total sales during 2011. The China business has been growing well and Anpario intends to give further support to this relationship to capitalise on the vast potential of China’s agriculture market.

In line with Anpario's strategy, Meriden will be run as a separate business enabling the team to focus on selling and marketing high quality feed additive products around the world. Joining Anpario means Meriden's management team will gain additional support and can benefit from working together with Anpario’s research and development resource to develop new and innovative products for sale under the Meriden brand.

The two founders, namely, Stephen Harris, Managing Director, and Pamela McLaren, Company Secretary, are to remain with the business in their existing roles, and will continue to develop the Meriden business further.

Richard Edwards, Executive Vice Chairman of Anpario, commented:

“Meriden Animal Health is a quality business with strong brand recognition for developing 100 percent natural feed additives. This acquisition increases our global market share in animal feed additives which is benefiting as the agriculture industry looks to use natural based solutions to promote the health and growth of animals for meat consumption.

Meriden’s significant presence in China increases our involvement in the world’s biggest producer of poultry and pig meat and reinforces our strategy to build more significant positions in emerging agriculture and aquaculture markets. We are delighted to welcome the Meriden team and very much look forward to working with them in achieving continued success with the business.”

bio-conventional as an emerging sector within the crop protection industry

South Carolina crops
Martin Brown, CEO of Intelligent Pest Management Company, Exosect, today discussed the landscape of the agrochemical industry at the CropWorld North America Conference held in North Carolina, a hub for the US Crop Protection industry. Speaking at the event, Brown remarked on the encouraging signs that the industry is following the path of the pharmaceutical sector in adopting an Open Innovation business model and this is leading to the emergence of a new ‘Bio-Conventional’ sector where the lines between products using conventional chemistry and biocontrols are becoming blurred to create sustainable solutions for food production.

However, Brown warned that this is still not enough to foster innovation as quickly as could be achieved and suggested that there is a need for a virtual industry platform to facilitate industry collaboration and innovation. Brown put to the audience that in order to meet the challenge of food security whilst using the planets resources sustainably, the crop protection industry needs to work harder to foster innovation and to do this it needs to further open the channels of communication. Study shows that continuous cropping increases wheat water usage

Wheat harvesting
Incorporating a fallow period into wheat cropping systems is beneficial for wheat productivity, this has been known since the dust bowl days of the 1930's. Now a study carried out by Kansas State University also shows that continuous cropping increases the percentage of precipitation that can be used by the crop. "The wheat-fallow system accumulates water over a two-year period, producing a single wheat crop," said Aiken, who is based at K-State's Northwest Research-Extension Center in Colby, Kan. "Farmers really picked up on this in the 'Dirty 30s.' It's a long-standing cropping practice for good reason." Read more ...

AFIA Nutrition Symposium looks at feeding more with less impact

The American Feed Industry Association (AFIA) Nutrition Committee recent seminar on “Feeding more people with fewer resources and less impact” covered a wide range of topics centered on the impact of the advancements in crop genetics on animal nutrition and the need for real time nutrient analysis.

The first speaker, Dr Jude Kapper, Washington State University, opened the symposium with a sustainability overview and its importance to agriculture. Dr Kapper explained that in order for the industry to remain viable, environmental impact must be reduced while sustainable productivity must increase. Critical to this is recognising that production systems must be customised to a region’s needs, because “every system is different on a global basis.” Read more ...

Press Release: New Research and Development Facility at Anpario

A new laboratory facility at the Anpario production and office site in Worksop has been opened. This will provide improved facilities for new product development and quality assurance and will be instrumental in helping technical staff provide support for the independent trading brands Optivite, Kiotechagil and Vitrition.

The new laboratory has been designed as a compact unit enabling daily quality control to be carried out on large numbers of samples efficiently.  Samples are produced on three separate lines each dedicated to specific product types and every batch is checked for colour, ‘flowability’ and homogeneity.  Further checks including pH measurement and titratable free acidity can be made if required.

“The new facilities will enable the research and development team to try out new product formulations and blend test samples for evaluation,” says Anpario quality manager Lesley Wilson.
Equipped with fume filtration complying with BS7989:2001, the new laboratory provides protection to technical staff against dusty or strong smelling substances, and is at the same time both environmentally friendly and energy efficient.

“This has been an exciting development to coincide with the expansion of the production site,” added Lesley Wilson. “There are a range of balances from simple top pan to 4-figure balances with built in anti-vibration dampers.  The full pH testing and titration equipment allows the preparation of different buffer points for the acid product lines and a range of mixers and blenders can simulate different production systems to ensure minimal scale-up problems for new formulations.” Complex fine chemical premixes for the aquaculture product range can also now be produced in-house.

Protein feed of animal origin imports has been banned by Russia

Russia has implemented a complete embargo on imports of protein feeds of animal origins from all European Union countries.
