Highest DLG honour for Bernd Meerpohl

November 14, 2024 - At EuroTier in Hanover, Germany, the Executive Board of the DLG (German Agricultural Society) has honoured Bernd Meerpohl, CEO of the Big Dutchman group of companies from Calveslage-Wechta, with the Max Eyth Gold Medal. DLG President Hubertus Paetow presented the medal at the International Poultry Event, which took place on the eve of EuroTier. He honoured Meerpohl's outstanding service to agriculture and the DLG. For more than 30 years, Bernd Meerpohl, in his role as a member and Head of the Exhibitor Advisory Board, has made a significant contribution to EuroTier. In his role, Meerpohl promotes professional and constructive cooperation between the international livestock sector and the DLG.

"The fact that EuroTier has achieved its current position is not least thanks to Bernd Meerpohl," emphasised DLG President Paetow in his laudatory speech. Meerpohl has been an honorary member of the EuroTier Exhibitor Advisory Board since 1994 and has chaired this body since 2004. In this role, Meerpohl has made a significant contribution to the further development and success of EuroTier.

"With a clear vision, strategic skill and a deep understanding of the needs of the industry, Bernd Meerpohl has continuously helped to drive the trade fair forward. He has never shied away from breaking new ground and driving forward bold decisions - always with the aim of promoting progress in agriculture and animal husbandry," Paetow continued. "The extent to which Meerpohl is able to anticipate trends in animal husbandry and respond to this change and the resulting need for new platforms to meet the challenges of the future with concrete, successful concepts can be seen, for example, in the new Inhouse Farming Food & Feed Show. It is a particularly impressive example of Bernd Meerpohl's innovative strength," emphasised Paetow.

Bernd is one of the most influential personalities in the livestock farming industry, as the long-standing Managing Director of Big Dutchman International, later Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Big Dutchman AG and, since autumn 2024, again as interim CEO of the Big Dutchman Group.

"With his commitment, Bernd Meerpohl has not only made a valuable contribution to the further development of EuroTier, but also to the promotion of German and international agriculture as a whole," Paetow concluded his speech and presented the DLG's highest honour, the Max Eyth Gold Medal, with the deepest thanks from the DLG Executive Board. This is awarded to individuals who have rendered outstanding services to agriculture and the DLG.
