AFIA Logo

Registration is now open for the American Feed Industry Association’s 46th annual Liquid Feed Symposium, September 12-14 in Louisville, Kentucky.

The symposium is hosted by AFIA’s Liquid Feed committee and focuses on current issues, growth, education and development in regard to the liquid supplement industry. It is designed to provide education on and promote all segments of the liquid feed industry, including manufacturers, nutritionists, equipment manufacturers, sales and market and additional industry support companies.

“This year’s Liquid Feed Symposium will feature highly regarded speakers focusing on current opportunities, challenges and consumer-driven impacts in the liquid feed industry,” said Leanna Nail. AFIA director of administration and staff contact for the Liquid Feed Committee.

The symposium is ideal for networking, as it is the largest and longest running event of its kind. Attendees are encouraged to browse the trade show where up to 30 companies will be exhibiting.
Additionally a person is inducted into the Liquid Feed Hall of Fame each year at the symposium.

The Liquid Feed Hall of Fame recognises and honours individuals who have made significant contributions to the science and growth of the liquid feed industry. Nominations for the Liquid Feed Hall of Fame are open until June 16, 2017.

27/02/13: Is India's growing grain mountain set to topple?; flour recall affects big US brands; new members on GEAPS board

India's growing grain mountain could be set to topple. The country has enough space to store
47 mt of wheat and rice but stockpiles are forecast to reach 100 mt in June 2013. A sixth consecutive bumper wheat harvest is due to get underway in March pushing the reserves up. However, the country runs the risk of wasting the crops due to its inefficient food distribution and storage system

The recall of several speciality flour lines by Dakota Specialty Milling has had a knock on effect on major producers in the USA. Frito-Lay and Mondelez have both been forced to recall some of their snacks, cereal and biscuit products as a precautionary measure.
Dakota Specialty Milling company voluntarily recalled some of its speciality flours on February 14, 2013 due to the possible presence of fragments of thin metal wire from a defective screen on one of its manufacturing lines at a milling facility. The recall was initiated as a precaution to ensure consumer product safety.

GEAPS International board of directors has three new members. GEAPS members nominated and voted on directors in an election that ended in January. The new board members were announced at GEAPS Annual Meeting at Exchange 2013 in Louisville, Kentucky.
Elected to terms as 2013-2016 International directors were:
  • Eric Kelley, Attebury Grain, Tri-State Chapter
  • David Marr, Michigan Agricultural Commodities, Michigan/Southern Ontario
  • Tom Winkel, MaxYield Cooperative, North Iowa
To the office of International 2013-2014 second vice president, GEAPS members elected Matthew Kerrigan, Bunge North America, from the Gateway Chapter.  Succeeding to the office of first vice president is Jim Jundt, Pacific Ethanol Columbia, from the Inland Empire Chapter.
International 2012-2013 First Vice President Slav Waplak, Viterra, Inc., from the Canadian Prairies Chapter, assumed the office of  2013-2014 International president. Bill Lyster, Ag Partners LLC, Greater Iowa, International 2012-2013 president succeeded to the office of 2013-2014 International Board chair.

Guest blog: Tom Blacker from the International Milling Directory

Today we have a guest blog post from Tom Blacker from Perendale Publishers. Tom has taken on the challenge of coordinating the International Milling Directory (IMD) for 2013/14. Although he's fairly new to the company, Tom has fully immersed himself in all thing IMD and the next edition is shaping up to be bigger and better than ever.

So, over to Tom...

Grain & Feed Milling Technology and the International Milling Directory (IMD) are normally separated by the different purposes and also by the building’s walls here at the Perendale offices. As it will be myself coordinating the new 2013/14 directory for publication and print later this year, it is good to welcome you in to 2013 with a renewed focus for the IMD too.

Foremost on the horizon is my first conferencing for the International Milling Directory at GEAPS Exchange in Louisville, Kentucky, USA in just over four weeks. IMD will be at the Perendale exhibition stand and will be distributing copies of the current edition to attendees and participants.
The GEAPS show is for the grain handling, elevator and processing industries and is a very long running conference. I am going to be a new face but aim to be able to attract the same levels of productivity as the old hands who have been before. Many of the IMD’s member companies and organisations will be present, especially from the US market. Large and smaller companies are exhibiting and the single hall plan means all will be easy to reach.

I am personally excited about the opportunity to interact and promote the IMD as well as Grain & Feed Milling Technology to this conference. Falling in February, after IPPE, will hopefully give a refreshingly compact approach to a US conference. Around 500 stands have been booked in total for GEAPS Exchange so far.

Do come and check out the IMD and myself at the Perendale Publishers’ stand next to the main hall’s entrance doors. Ivan Marquetti, Perendale Publishers’ Latin America manager, is due to join me for GEAPS Exchange so I also look forward to working together with him at this event.
Don't forget, you can access the IMD online here.
