The American Feed Industry Association (AFIA) and Feedstuffs named PerforMix Nutrition Systems, Rupert, Idaho, feed manufacturing facility as its 2021 Liquid Feed Facility of the Year (FFY) award winner. Gary Huddleston, AFIA's director of feed manufacturing and regulatory affairs, presented the award to plant manager Ty Cahoon during a dinner at the AFIA's Liquid Feed Symposium, being held in Chicago, Ill. this week.
'PerforMix's years of experience manufacturing liquid feed has produced experienced and engaged employees and an excellent plant design,' says Mr Huddleston. 'Their state-of-the-art mixing system, fully automated facility is designed for superior quality and growth and has allowed the facility to achieve a 12-14 percent annual growth rate. Congratulations to this talented team for earning the highest marks among liquid feed competitors this year.'
The Rupert, Idaho, feed manufacturing facility generates approximately 56,000 tons of feed annually, primarily for beef and dairy cattle. This is the first time PerforMix has won the Feed Facility of the Year award.
'PerforMix thanks AFIA and the Feed Facility of the Year program for giving us standards to improve,' says Kirk Bowman, director of operations at PerforMix. 'Our industry needs standards to help folks like Ty know where to achieve and continually improve.'
U.S. feed and pet food manufacturers continuously strive for excellence in their operations, which includes everything from optimising animal food nutrition to improving the safety of their products and workplaces to complying with government regulations. In 1985, the AFIA sought to recognise top facilities as part of its voluntary FFY program, which assessed manufacturers' overall operations against their peers using key industry metrics. As the industry has evolved, the FFY program has evolved with it, now recognising award winners throughout the year in four categories – liquid feed, commercial dry, premix and ingredient, and integrator.
To date, 35 facilities have earned a FFY award.
