Research with yeast protein carried out on heat stressed broilers

Scientists at West Bengal University working alongside AB Vista carried out research on yeast and yeast protein concentrate on broiler chickens exposed to heat stress and challenged with salmonella enteritidis. The experiment was carried out over a 35 day period to evaluate the effects of dietary supplementation.

Yeast supplementation was also as effective as the YPC additives in reducing serum cortisol level. Villus height increased by supplementation of YPC-pellets as compared with the other dietary groups although the implication of this increment was not discernible in terms of production performances. Yeast culture agglutinates coli and salmonella

Specialist manufacture Vi-COR has announced research results that demonstrate Celmanax is able to enhance livestock gut health. The experiments proved the ability of Celmanax Dry, Liquid and SCP to agglutinate forms of pathogenic E. coli and Salmonella species.

Mannan Oligosaccharide (MOS) showed that it is important in preventing infections by some pathogenic bacteria by agglutinating them (causing them to clump together) and preventing them from binding to the host tissue. "Experiments conducted by our microbiologist and independent laboratories prove that adding Celmanax to livestock feed can improve gut health and reduce likelihood of infections," says Mark Holt, Vi-COR president and CEO. Lallemand opens new Titan yeast production plant

Lallemand Animal Nutrition has announced the opening of a second yeast coating facility in Passau, Germany, dedicated to the processing of protected yeasts Levucell SB and SC Titan. The new state-of the-art-facility is fully compliant with animal feed quality and safety standards. It has already been successfully audited according to FAMI-QS standard.

Until now, protected yeast was produced in Lallemand Vienna’s yeast plant only. The new German facility enables to double the company’s production capacity for quality protected yeasts, in order to address a soaring demand from the market.

Protecting yeasts

“Pelleted feed represents a significant part of the animal feed market, attaining from 30 percent to as much as 80 percent, depending on the local country practices and target species,” says Laurent Dussert, ruminant product manager for Lallemand. “Our innovative Titan technology maximises the delivery of live yeast to the host animal when submitted to drastic feed processing conditions, such as pelleting.” Titan is a patented technology developed by Lallemand, which combines an optimisation of the yeast fermentation and drying processes with a unique coating technology.
