New investments in Russia´s agriculture
Russia plans to increase the domestic agricultural production by 40% by 2020. The program sees investments of 19 billion euros for the purchase of new machinery and the modernisation of the agricultural sector.

As Russia´s domestic industry cannot meet the high need, foreign manufacturers can benefit from these new export opportunities. The demand is especially high for agricultural machinery, animal husbandry technologies, equipment for slaughtering, greenhouses, cold storage houses, grain storage facilities and biomass units.

Novosibirsk Region
Among the Russian regions, Siberia in particular is in need of modern machinery and technology. Novosibirsk Region harbours the largest arable lands in Russia and ranks among Russia´s top ten agricultural producers. The regional agriculture focuses on grain crops, potatoes and vegetables. Animal husbandry plays a significant role in Novosibirsk Region as well and concentrates on beef and dairy livestock, pig, poultry and sheep farming.

Due to the Siberian climatic conditions - long cold winters and short hot summers - the vegetation period is relatively short and therefore requires efficient machinery.

Norel has announced the appointment of Ms Irene Margüenda in its technical department. Margüenda studied agronomy engineering and achieved a diploma of advanced studies.

She has experience in animal nutrition, animal husbandry, farm management and critical analysis of experimental performances.

Hans van Leeuwen, researcher at Iowa State University has developed a process that can turn the waste product from ethanol production into a high-protein fungus that is currently being tested for use as animal feed.

It is hoped that the fungus, which contains essential amino acids, will eventually help the millions of starvation-related deaths in developing countries each year.

During its 53rd annual board of delegates meeting in Ottawa, Canada, the US Grains Council elected a new chairman to its board of directors.

Julius Schaaf, a farmer from Randolph, Iowa, has more than 33 years of experience in production agriculture.

"The world is always changing. Markets are always changing. Today competition is growing, and so are the opportunities. Our job is to figure out how to stay ahead of the changes,” Schaaf told attendees of the conference.
