Wenger feeds buys poultry mill from Pennfield Corp

Pennfield Corporation is to sell its poultry feed mill to Wenger Feed Mill Inc in West Hempfield Township in Philadelphia state. Pennfield has said that it will concentrate on its dairy and companion animal segments of the animal feed industry. "This sale will provide the local poultry industry with continued excellent resources and, at the same time, allows us to focus on new areas of growth in its core business." chief executive officer Arnie Sumner of Pennfield said. Eurofins acquires LabCo

LabCo Laboratory Services (LabCo), has been acquired by Eurofins Food Testing Rotterdam .This laboratory for physicochemical and microbiological analysis located in Rotterdam will now operate under the name Eurofins LabCo.

Customers will immediately gain access to Eurofins’ wide range of services across the food and feed sector. The former LabCo has continuously worked in accordance with ISO / IEC 17025 accreditation. Yet again dioxin problems in Germany, but no danger to the public?

The German authorities announced on Wednesday that the controversial and highly poisonous chemical dioxin had been discovered above the permitted level in eggs from a German farm, but they see no danger to the public. During routine tests carried out on the farm it was discovered that the eggs were found to be contaminated with six times the permitted level of dioxin. The farm located in the central German state of North Rhine Westphalia.

The eggs of two of the four houses contained up to six times above the limit concentration of dioxin-like PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls). PCBs can be equaled to dioxin, a spokesman of the ministry said. The farm holds 25,000 organic hens and supplies supermarkets in the area. The farm has been sealed off and is not permitted to sell more eggs, the state ministry said. Read more ...

Antibiotic use in feed production growing rapidly in Russia

The growth of antibiotic use in feed production is on the increase in Russia according to the Russian Federal Statistic Service (Rosstat). This growth in the use of feed antibiotics in 2011 was 3.41 times higher than in 2010.

Every year antibiotics are becoming more and more popular among farmers in Russia and this trend has also reflected in the price. In 2012 the average price of feed antibiotics in Russia grew by 4.8 percent reaching the level of 1,073 rub (US$ 36)(€27.596) per ton when compared with January 2011.  Read more ...

Van Aarsen to build a 90 ton per hour feed mill

Van Aarsen International is to start building a major new state of the arts feed mill for Kalmar Lantmän in the South of Sweden. Van Aarsen will supply, build and towards the end of 2013 start up a 90 ton per hour feed mill. This is the largest project in the companies 63 year history. Kalmar Lantmän is the client who purchased this new state-of-the-art feed mill, being a total investment of €45 million (US$59.175 million) and will enable the company to increase its feed production to 275,000 tons per year.

The motivation behind replacing their two existing feed mills was to create lower production costs per tonne of feed, by using the highest degree of automation, flexibility and efficiency and at the same time achieving vast improvements in hygienic production, ATEX and fire safety with a considerable reduction in labour and energy costs.
