Brazil will harvest this year an unprecedented 199.6 million tonnes of grains, 3.5 percent above last year's bounty but short of the original forecast, the government said Tuesday, according to Fox News Latino.
The new estimate is 0.9 percent below the initial forecast released in February, the Brazilian Institute for Geography and Statistics, or IBGE, said, attributing the downward adjustment to the effects of the severe drought affecting the southeastern part of the country.
Soybeans, corn and rice are the three major crops in Brazil, accounting for 91.5 percent of production and 85.3 percent of land under cultivation.
