The Zimbabwean Government has allocated $ 630 million for local grain purchases and logistics to increase the expected 852,000 tonnes of 2018/2019 grain harvest.
The government stated that additional collection points were opened in various provinces of the country in order to encourage sector stakeholders, mobilise the market and reduce the transport costs of the farmers, and this additional budget provides 630 million dollars for grain purchases and logistics.
In April, which is the delivery period of grain, 852,000 tons of production is expected from both corn and small grains, and the annual amount required for human consumption is considerably lower than the national amount of 1.8 million tons.
It has been stated that because of the costs, bakers prefer confectionery over producing bread, which makes it is causing difficulties in providing bread.
