Leading North American flour supplier and grain innovator Ardent Mills has recently donated 2,500 lbs or 1,133kg of flour to Schmidt's Pastry Cottage in South Jordan, Utah, to assist in keeping the Schmidt's bread giveaway going for weeks to come.
A recent article published by Deseret News explained that staff at Schmidt's Pastry Cottage had originally thought the phone call offer to donate the flour was a joke, but were then blown away when they discovered it was a legitimate offer.
According to Brett Borg from Schmidt's Pastry Cottage, this flour donation will be enough to produce an additional 6,500 loaves of bread. Schmidt's Pastry Cottage has been giving two loaves of bread to customers during the COVID-19 outbreak, one to enjoy themselves, and the second to share.
Ardent Mills employee, Alex Nelson, was the first to heard about the daily bread giveaway during a TV news article. Mr Nelson commented, ''I saw what they were doing, and I thought we could help out. Despite all the bad news you hear about bread, we feel like it's a nourishing food.'
