The
IGP Institute teams up with Buhler, Inc. to host an executive milling course in
Spanish
Seeking to continually advance their milling companies, Spanishspeaking corporate leaders, traveled to Kansas State University’s IGP Institute to learn about how to produce the highest quality products through the Buhler–KSU Executive Milling course held August 28– September 1, 2017.
This training was team taught by milling experts from both KSU and Buhler, Inc. There were nine participants from five countries who attended the course, which is designed as an introduction to flour milling for non-millers.
“It was great to see participants from five countries come together and learn, as well as discuss how things work in each of their countries,” says Jason Watt, Buhler instructor of milling.
“It was very interesting to talk to the participants about their countries and the milling industry there.”
Mr Watt explains the participants seemed to get a lot out of the week and that several of them said they would like to come back for future courses. The training covered topics including raw materials, cleaning systems, milling systems, finished product handling and storage, performance evaluation in a flour mill and factors that influence an investment decision and basics in aspiration.
“We need to have a basic knowledge of milling and this course helped us in learning that knowledge,” says Tomás Badino Gubler, director of human resources at Molino Argentino in Luján, Argentina.
“Something very important in this course was learning from the other participants from different countries, by knowing their experiences and exchanging information and knowledge with them. I can go back with several theoretical and practical points that we can use in our company.”
The course also included hands-on exercises demonstrating the influences of wheat characteristics on yield and mill performance, special systems for mycotoxin reduction and top quality flour production, machine and flow sheet technology, system design and various tempering philosophies, among other topics in the KSU Hal Ross Flour Mill.
In addition to grain processing and flour milling, IGP offers courses in the areas of grain marketing and risk management, and feed manufacturing and grain quality management.
