Topics to be discussed include, but are not limited to, flow sheet technology, optimum machine adjustment and mill handling, special cleaning systems, tempering of wheat, starch damage and mill pneumatic systems. Participants will also spend time completing practical exercises in the Hal Ross Flour Mill.

Past course participant, Chris Craft, head miller at Grain Craft in Birmingham, Alabama, describes his experience at the Bühler–KSU Expert Milling course and the valuable knowledge that he gained throughout the course.

'I wanted to advance my knowledge and try to advance in the field where I can look at more detailed operations in the industry,' says Mr Craft. 'I was able to ask questions about my own mill and setup and get some insight from the instructors, and they really gave me some ideas and direction to make improvements when I go back.'

In addition to flour milling and grain processing, the IGP Institute offers courses in the areas of feed manufacturing and grain quality management, and grain marketing and risk management.

Tickets on sale for Cereals 2020, a leading technical event for the arable industry

Tickets are now on sale for Cereals 2020, with early bird prices of just £15 and group discounts available. A leading European Arable event, Cereals will be held on 10-11 June 2020, at the Chrishall Grange, Duxford, Cambridge, UK.

Having sought and considered visitor and exhibitor feedback, the new Comexposium management team have cut ticket prices and made it easier for farmers to bring their whole family or staff party to the Event.

'There is so much going on at Cereals – from working machinery demonstrations to the packed seminar programme; not to mention the invaluable networking opportunities – that it's only right that farmers want to bring their whole teams with them,' says event organiser Alli McEntyre. 'But in the past, costs have been prohibitive, so we have worked hard with our industry partners to bring the event to a wider audience and make it more affordable for all.'

New features for this year include a Young Farmers' Club programme with a focus on sustainability, an Innovation and Technology demonstration area, and a drainage showcase – extremely topical given this year's wet autumn and winter. There will also be a Grain Exchange for fresh ideas from grain marketing companies, an improved event layout and more crop plots featuring leading and award-winning varieties.

Perennial favourites like the NIAB Soil Pit, Syngenta Sprays & Sprayers Arena, and working demonstrations will be returning, and the improved theatre programme promises to challenge and inspire, with a great mix of blue-sky thinking and practical advice. There will even be a grain marketing competition and a Dragon's Den business challenge, as well as a focus on farmer-led innovation.

'British agriculture is facing an exciting – if uncertain – future,' says Ms McEntyre. 'We want to equip farmers with the latest knowledge, ideas, and technology to help them embrace all of the opportunities which will arise in the coming years.'

This year's event returns to Chrishall Grange, Duxford, Cambridgeshire, making it farmer Robert Law's fifth time of hosting. 'A lot of the big shows have gone; this is the major summer networking event,' he says. 'Given the agricultural and political climate, going to events like this is more important than ever before.'

World Mycotoxin Report 2019 EMEA & APAC - Biomin Mycotoxin Webinar

By Vaughn Entwistle, Managing Editor, Perendale Publishers

Every year since 2004 Biomin has conducted an annual survey of mycotoxins as part of the technical service they provide to their customers. The worldwide survey reports on which mycotoxins were discovered and where they were found. Biomin maintains that the survey is crucial to helping the company to develop new products for customers as it allows them to us evaluate the mycotoxin risk to animals.

This year's webinar was moderated by Joshua Davis and featured a panel of mycotoxin experts including:

- Alexandro Marchioro MSc Senior Mycotoxin Expert at Biomin
- Anneliese Müll PhD, Project Manager, Mycotoxin at Biomin
- And Martina Bellasio PhD Senior Mycotoxin Expert at ROMER LABS

Mycotoxin origins
Mycotoxins produced by fungi contaminate a wide variety of feed ingredients given to ruminants, swine, poultry, fish, and shrimp. These mycotoxins can have many deleterious consequences for animals, including affecting health, growth, welfare and, ultimately, profitability.

Biomin's mycotoxin report covered the major topics surrounding the issue of mycotoxin infection:
• Upcoming mycotoxin threats in livestock feed across the globe
• Relevant mycotoxin testing tools to ensure proper monitoring in an animal rearing operation
• The dangers posed by the presence of multiple mycotoxins and newly emerging mycotoxins
• How to establish an effective mycotoxin risk management program

The report was offered as a live streamed webinar and opened with a world map colour-keyed in terms of the risk threshold. While all regions are affected by mycotoxins, the risk threshold is based on risk in the field and rated from moderate to Extreme risk. Pale yellow denotes moderate risk levels which gradually darkens to dark red which represents extreme risk. A new addition for 2020 was the introduction of mycotoxin risk for aquaculture.

Corn (maize) was one of the first feed crops evaluated and was depicted by a graph recording ten-years of mycotoxin contamination. It was noted that the same strains of mycotoxins have appeared around the world.
