17/02/14: Oil palm in the livestock sector; Cargill rejects GM crops

Oil palm, most commonly known for its use in cooking oils, cosmetics, chemicals and biodiesels. 

However, every year over seven million tonnes of oil palm is dried and processed and ends up as feed stock for cattle, primarily in New Zealand and Europe.

Cargill Inc, a key US exporter of grain and oilseeds, announced last Friday that it will reject crops containing a new genetically modified Syngenta AG corn trait delivered to its grain elevators for export contracts.

Corn seeds containing Syngenta's Agrisure Duracade trait are available for planting in the United States for the first time this year after authorities cleared the trait in 2013.
