Trade Policy
Despite the challenges brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic, the global supply chain showed robustness, with grains, rice and oilseeds trade flows progressing well with few interruptions. Nevertheless, challenges remain, including the need to find a balance between the requirements of local and international markets.

With global consumption likely to reach new peaks over the coming years, the Panel will assess the role trade policy will play in future years in ensuring a dynamic international market – in enabling food supplies to move from surplus to deficit areas. Moreover, how can SPS rules and other relevant policies be improved to enhance the functioning of world markets?

Key topics for consideration:

  • Multilateral trade policy perspectives
  • Non-tariff barriers
  • Perspectives for the US farm sector

Day two of the IGC Grains Conference takes place June 9th, which includes a workshop from 13:50pm to 14:30. This workshop will be discussing glyphosate and grain trade.

Speakers include; Hartmut van Lengerich, Global Head of Asset Management Herbicides, Bayer; Maria Beatriz Pilu Giraudo, Farmer, Argentina; and Jacki Davis, Meade Davis Communications, journalist and European Union affairs analyst.

Today glyphosate plays a pivotal role in the global grain trade. How does the outcome of the ongoing EU regulatory process for its re-approval is seen by the industry and sector's course in the upcoming years?
