12/07/13: Emerald Grain's bumper year; AIC launches new website; great grain revival

The Emerald Grain port terminal, Melbourne, Australia is celebrating a record annual loading of grain. 

About 1.4 million tonnes of grain were shipped through the port for the year which ended June 30, 2013.The vast majority of this was made up of bulk shipments of wheat, barley, canola and corn.

A record 47 ships berthed at the port during the year, loading an average 27,000 tonnes.

John Kelley, managing director, AIC Services said, “Our website is a critical communications tool for our members and our key stakeholders. It provides vital information about European and UK Government and highlights our key activities in the areas of policy and lobbying. The trade assurance status checker has been vastly improved in terms of useability and speed as well as including a wealth of information regarding trade assurance schemes.

The website also reflects the broad range of activities undertaken by AIC on behalf of its membership in the UK, Europe and globally.”

Famed for its flavor, red fife wheat is believed to have crossed several continents before arriving in Canada in 1842. From here, it gained a foothold and spawned many modern varieties.

Ref fife has recently been revived, and farmers, millers and marketers are all eager to get their hands on authentic seeds from this original ancient variety of wheat.
