17/01/14: Multi vs single enzyme use in mongastric diets; violence in Africa a threat to food security; Food manufacturer expands in to Malaysia

Dr Helen Masey O’Neill, research manager at international feed ingredient supplier AB Vista, UK recently reviewed the use of multi-enzyme products in mongastric animal diets.

In a paper published in the Asian-Australasian Journal of Animal Science (AJAS),  O'Neill suggested that until a definitive study is published proving that multi-enzyme products are neccessary for optimum benefit, there is no evidence to justify their use over an optimised single-component non-starch polysaccharide (NSP) enzyme.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has warned that the recent violence in South Sudan, North Africa is threatening to increase hunger and human suffering considerably, underminig the food security efforts set up over past two years.

Under the United Nations' Crisis Response Plan, the FAO and its partners in the Food Security and Livelihoods Cluster are seeking US$61 million for crucial food assistance and livelihoods activities.

American multinational food manufacturer Kellogg's has announced plans to build a new snacks manufacturing facility in Malaysia, South East Asia as part of its new program 'Project K'.

The new facility - located in Negeri Sembilan, just south of Kuala Lumpur - will increase production capacity in the Asia Pacific markets, creating  at least 300 jobs locally, the company said.
