Latest members to join Protix's advisory board announced

Scaling its international business and creating growth within the insect sector, Protix has announced the latest members to join its advisory board, specialists Einar Wathne and Bert Pauli. The company expresses its excitement at these specialists joining, as they will bring their valuable input and insights into the company's next stage.

Mr Wathne will be responsible for bringing his expertise in aquaculture, while Mr Pauli will oversee regulatory matters and complete stakeholder management. Since 2009, Protix has been involved in developing insect ingredients and facilitating the growth of the industry, as it focuses on black soldier fly (BSF) as a protein to supply feed, food, and fertiliser manufacturers.

Since the construction of its facility in 2019, the company now supports leading brands and industrial manufacturers in their efforts to deliver more healthy and sustainable products.

"We are very excited that Einar Wathne and Bert Pauli are providing us with advice and support in our ambitious growth plans," says Kees Aarts, CEO and founder of Protix. "We are confident their in-depth knowledge, network and experience is a real asset in navigating our company through the next phase. With these two seasoned leaders and experts, we will be able to roll out our plans even better and faster."

Einar Wathne is the former CEO of EWOS and president of Cargill Aqua Nutrition. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Biosciences at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) and is on the board of directors of salmon farmer Bakkafrost, Blue Lice AS, and is chairman of NCE Seafood Cluster and Nutrimar Holding.

"The farming expertise, and the technological and commercial nature of Protix are unique in the world and will be a critical success factor in bringing this new category of nutrition to the aquaculture industry. I look forward to helping to drive their long-term impact in this exciting industry," says Mr Wathne.

Bert Pauli and Protix worked together for a six year period in 2013-2019, generating successes in deregulating the insect-based nutrition industry. Mr Pauli will support Protix's development in the areas of stakeholder management, international regulatory affairs and national and municipal interests.

"Creating an industry is no easy task," remarks Mr Pauli. "It demands innovation on all aspects: from biology to technology to regulation. Protix has proven its ability to drive multistakeholder dialogue through its transparent and motivating agenda and vision. I look forward to continuing to support them in the scale-up phase. Close collaboration with different stakeholders on an international scale will be crucial, and I am pleased to contribute with my expertise in that area."

Insect-based nutrition was a new concept at the time Protix was established in 2009, with the potential to tackle issues related to sustainability, health and welfare. These topics were discovered by the company to be best tackled through a 'stronger-together' approach. As a consequence, Protix has focused on forging strong contacts and bringing together experts from different disciplines.
