June 13, 2024 - For the first time, Ukraine is sending sunflower oil as part of the humanitarian food initiative 'Grain from Ukraine'. 2453.26 tonnes of oil are destined for 5 African countries – the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mozambique, Djibouti, Mauritania, and Palestine.
The humanitarian aid is being shipped by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine in cooperation with the World Food Programme (WFP).

According to Markiyan Dmytrasevych, Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy, this year Ukraine has expanded the range of humanitarian cargo.
“We are fulfilling our country’s mission to ensure food security in the world. And we are expanding the range of humanitarian goods, as announced by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy during the second Grain from Ukraine summit. We supply not only grain, but also corn, peas, and now sunflower oil. This oil will be shipped in containers from the ports of Greater Odesa,” said Markiyan Dmytrasevych.
Marianne Ward, Acting Director of the UN World Food Programme in Ukraine, said that more than 200,000 tonnes of agricultural products have been shipped under the Grain from Ukraine initiative. To date, many donor countries have joined the Grain from Ukraine initiative. In particular, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Iceland, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Sweden and Luxembourg.
Markiyan Dmytrasevych stressed the important role of the UN World Food Programme in supporting Ukrainians from the frontline areas and internally displaced persons. He noted that in the near future, Ukraine will transfer grain from previous harvests to the World Food Programme for processing to make pasta and bread. These goods will be sent to residents of the frontline areas.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Austria to Ukraine Arad Benkö, Counsellor for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries of the Embassy of Denmark in Ukraine Paul Jakub Erikstrup, and Counsellor for Agriculture of the Embassy of the French Republic in Ukraine Jean Llanot also took part in the delivery of the humanitarian oil.
In total, 10 vessels with more than 200 thousand tonnes of agricultural products were shipped to Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Yemen, Nigeria, Sudan, and Palestine as part of the Grain from Ukraine initiative.
