Millers in Kenya have warned they could run out maize in the next
week due to what they term as exorbitant prices being demanded by
farmers.
According to the Cereal Millers Association, which represents 26 milling companies, millers only have an estimated 200,000 bags of maize, enough to last for a week. The association
blames the shortage on reluctance by farmers to sell their produce in anticipation
of higher prices.
