New countries gain flour fortification status

Flour fortification status is growing and growing.  In fact, the number of countries with mandatory wheat flour fortification has more than doubled in last eight years.

The latest additions to the flour fortification momentum are Moldova, Benin, and Togo. This makes 68 countries with such legislation, compared to 33 when FFI was formally launched in 2004.

“The growth in countries passing legislation is the result of the determination of country leaders to improve the health of their populations and the hard work of our many public, private, and civic sector partners,” says Scott Montgomery, FFI Director. “This milestone of doubling the number of countries is an achievement we can all celebrate.”
