MORE: From the field to the farm, grains, silages and finished feeds are exposed to conditions that promote the growth of moulds and mycotoxins. At harvest, much of 2013’s crop was contaminated with multiple mycotoxins. These crops have been stored over winter and spring and will be fed throughout the summer, exposing animals to a more complex challenge. Moisture levels, rising temperatures, the availability of oxygen and poor feed management during storage contribute to changes in the levels and types of mycotoxins present in today’s feed.
