Morning Foods and Aberystwyth University team up to promote UK Oats on the world stage

Last week saw the 11th International Oat Conference, OAT 2022 hosted by the Grain Industry of Western Australia in Perth, WA.

The conference, which is a mainstay of global oat research & production, was delayed from its original planned date in 2020. Morning Foods, based in Cheshire, were a platinum sponsor of this year's event, to champion UK oats on the global stage. Morning Foods, who work closely with the University of Aberystwyth, since first partnering in 1985 to play hosts to the 2nd global conference delivered the 'Oat Quality Products and Innovation' theme of the program.

Since then, this UK industry-led partnership has yielded significant advancements for UK oat growers, including the breeding of Mascani, the most popular winter oat variety. Oats grown by UK farmers and milled by Morning Foods are currently exported to 72 countries worldwide.

Andrew Rutter, commercial director at Morning Foods said, 'It was a truly global event and we were thrilled to attend. Meeting delegates from throughout the oat supply chain from breeders, farmers, and millers. It was a fantastic environment in which to share knowledge, network and collaborate on the common challenges and opportunities facing us all in the global oat community.'

The next host country is yet to be selected. However, Morning Foods and the team from Aberystwyth University will be there to continue to promote the UK oat industry on the world stage.
