This year, the event logo shall be “Thinking Outside the Box. Innovation for
Responsible Soy”, under the core topic of innovations related to responsible
soy and sustainable businesses, with the purpose of enabling the development of
new ideas and the exchange of opinions and expertise among the main experts in
this subject.
With a vast program on responsible soy, the conference shall feature local and
international speakers and shall be divided into four topics:
- Governance and Innovation, aiming at introducing the latest innovations of
major international organizations in the field of sustainable agriculture;
- New Horizons of soy, with a focus on challenges and opportunities related to
management, tech and production changes;
- Leadership, Innovation and Integration in Responsible Businesses that shall
deal with the importance of leadership in the business regarding responsible
practices;
- Green Economy, regarding the articulation of environment and economic
matters.
In 2010, the Roundtable on Responsible Soy Association (RTRS), organizer of the
meeting, was accredited for submitting RTRS certifications for soy production.
To apply for certification, production must comply with a series of appropriate
agricultural, labour, environmental, legal and business practices, apart from
having a responsible relationship with the local community.
“There is great potential today for implementing this certification, apart from
a strong demand from society for sustainable soy crops. We hope that this event
may spread even more information on the economic, social and environmental
benefits of certification, both for consumers, and for the production chain”,
explains Agustín Mascotena, RTRS Executive.
Field Visit – On May 9, a field visit will be organized for producers to
learn, first hand, the functioning of a certified soy producing farm. The farm
is located 30 km away from the hotel. There will be buses available for
visitors. Attendants willing to take part in the field visit will need to
previously notify the organization of the event.
Online registration may be done through the link that also supplies
information on accommodation and tips for visitors of Foz do Iguaçu. RT9 is
sponsored by Shell, Iguaçu Convention & Visitors Bureau, Grupo André Maggi,
SLC Agrícola, Schutter Group, Solidaridad, Chainfood, and Arla.
