20/03/2015: Thailand postpones rice auction

In order to prevent a further dip in prices during the harvest of the second crop, the Thai Commerce Ministry has postponed the next auction of rice from government stockpiles, according to The Bangkok Post.

Prices fell during the first harvest, so the delay of this third auction is intended to prevent any further decline, according to Chatchai Sarikulya, the nation’s Commerce Minister.

However, it appears such measures won’t be needed for long: the Philippines have put in an order for 200,000 tonnes of rice, and China wants a further two million.
