09/10/2013: US shutdown to impact Australian grain prices; UK's special feeding program for piglets; IFIF re-appoints chairman



Australian grain prices are expected to fall if the US government services aren't reinstated soon.

Last week, President Barack Obama sent Federal employees home, effectively shutting down the United States Department of Agriculture, which usually employs over 100,000 staff.

UK-based feed manufacturer BOCM PAULS International has adopted a special feeding programme for piglets weaned at an early age. The system incorporates BOCM PAUL's prestarter Supreme Choice mix in to a porridge which is fed via electronic feeders.

The programme offers a nutritious and simple solution to the problem of feeding very young and small piglets (4 - 4.5 kg liveweight). BOCM PAULS state that the system can help ease the change from sow's milk to solid feed.

Delegates at the International Feed Industry Federation (IFIF)’s 26th General Assembly have re-elected Mario Sergio Cutait as chairman for the 2014-2015 term of office.

Upon accepting his second term as Chairman, Mr. Cutait thanked delegates for their trust. "Through our efforts and partnerships we have positively impacted the environmental footprint, the international regulatory framework, the efficiency and the image of our industry," he added.
