Keeping in view the present scenario of global perspectives and national priorities, Wheat Products Promotion Society (WPPS) is organising the 7th International Seminar on Wheat from September 2, 2014 at Hotel Sheraton Park Hotel, Alwarpet, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
The seminar would be inaugurated by renowned agricultural scientist Professor M. S. Swaminathan, Founder Chairman and Chief Mentor, UNESCO Chair in Eco-technology.
Mr Ratan Gupta, Chairman, Organizing Committee, IWS 2014 says, “The seminar will focus on role of wheat system in tackling twin issues of sustained availability of basic food and combating menace of malnutrition among citizens.
"Wheat Products Promotion Society is the main organiser of the seminar, together with the Roller Flour Millers' Federation of India, Tamil Nadu Roller Flour Manufacturers’ Association (TNRFMA), All India Bread Manufacturers’ Association (AIBMA) and Society of Indian Bakers".
Mr N.L. Mehta Senior Vice President, AIBMA says, "Wheat is the most essential crop in India and a large number of people depend upon wheat system for their livelihood. Wheat system has a number of elements, from science & research, cultivation and all aspects of farm practices, post-harvest movement, storage and trade, processing, production and marketing of food ready-for-consumption.
"At each sub-system, there are several considerations of growth, efficiency, remunerations and incentives to produce, finance and exchange, regulatory regime, social responsibilities, poverty alleviation, health and welfare of our fellow citizens. Each sub-system works within its own issues, and yet is dependent on and influences other stake-holders."
Mr K.S.K. Kannan, Chairman, Local Organizing Committee – IWS 2014 says, "The proposed seminar will enable the industrialist and prospective entrepreneurs, administrators and planners, scientists, technologists, marketing specialists and exporters/importers to come together on a common platform and discuss various problems and evolve strategies to increase the demand for wheat and wheat products in the domestic and global markets. Apart from a large number of local participants, good number of experts and participants from overseas will also participate and attend the seminar."
Mr Hitesh Chandak, President, Roller Flour Millers Federation of India says, "WPPS attempt is to bring about an open environment for mutual understanding of local and global issues, and pressures being faced, and thought processes on plans to accelerate growth."
Mr J N Kushwaha , President, Society of Indian Bakers says, "WPPS promotes better consumption of traditional and non-traditional wheat foods in India by conducting surveys, educational programmes and study tours, establishing research centre’s, assisting farmers growing wheat and assisting manufacturers of foods."

Wheat Products Promotion Society has been organising national and international wheat seminar for the last many years. This is the first time that the International seminar on wheat and wheat products is being held in Chennai, India.
