Over 400 tonnes spills from a collapsed grain silo onto railway tracks in south-east Norway

Over 400 tonnes of wheat spilled onto the Ostfold rail tracks at Vestby, Akershus, Nrway when a 30-year-old, 600-tonne silo split adjacent to the tracks. Rail traffic both directions and throughout the south-east of Norway was disrupted.

It's not yet known what the silo failed. However, a 'leak' in the silo which was fixed last week may have been associated with the collapse. There was a loud bang was heard in the area just before the collapse.

Work has been underway to clear the tracks. No on e was hurt.
