Brazil is currently one of the world's biggest exporters of soybeans and corn after the
United States.
However, a state of emergency was declared in the country's leading soy state, Mato Grosso yesterday following an infestation of Helicoverpa caterpillar.
The state government estimates that production cost in areas where the caterpillar is most prominent will rise as fighting the pest often involves multiple applications of insecticide and destruction of host plant material.

Major feed supplier Purina Mills has claimed that Washington, USA based egg producer National Food Corporation has
failed to pay for 830 tons of soybean meal at a cost of more than US$370,000.
The
complaint, which accuses the egg farm of unjust enrichment and breach of
contract, seeks compensation for the feed as well as interest and other
costs.
