After an investigation by the consumer authority in Sri Lanka, it was found that some rice millers in Polonnaruwa were found to be producing animal feed using rice that was fit for human consumption. Under Sri Lankan law, it is illegal to utilise rice that is fit for human consumption in animal feeds, it is illegal to sell or stock animal feed made this rice.
