There are growing calls to ensure there are sufficient safety nets in place to protect grain growers.
Insurance
schemes to protect against natural disasters and legislation to shelter
farmers from traders who go broke, are just two of the issues that
lobby groups hope to gain traction on, in the months ahead.
Andrew Weidemann from Rupanyup in Victoria's Wimmera, is a grain grower and chairman of Grain Producers Australia.
He says Australia needs a similar multi-peril insurance scheme like the United States to protect against frost and floods.
"Multi-peril insurance is something that a lot of our trading partners have in place," he said.
"Australia,
today, doesn't have a more broadly used policy, there are some
commercial providers that are offering up products to the market and
this is something GPA and other state organisations have been looking
quite seriously at."
