09/02/2016: FAMI-QS Secretary General to give feed safety and certification presentation at Global Milling Conference in Abu Dhabi

Emmanuel Geneiatakis, the Secretary General of FAMI-QS, will be speaking at the Global Milling Conference on 15 February 2016 at the ADNEC in Abu Dhabi.

His talk is titled ‘Feed safety and third party certification: FAMI-QS.’ Here's a brief run-down:

"Feed safety schemes are becoming an important feature of the global feed chain. Nowadays, feed business operators’ operational activities take place in a rather complex legal and business environment. Third Party Certification (TPC) against a feed safety scheme has become an important feature for the feed sector. Although TPC is voluntary, it is an important requirement for a feed business operator to gain market access.

"As far as the Specialty Feed Ingredients sector is concerned, third party certification (TPC), and FAMI-QS in particular, is becoming an important tool in supporting market access, at a global level. Operating on such a large scale (global), a Conformity Assessment Scheme is required to both meet and respect the rules of international trade. Compliance with the International Accreditation Standards and respect of the WTO- TBT agreement became a must to integrate in the structure of this precursor scheme.

"Besides its market value, a credible third Party Certification could also be a useful tool in the hands of the competent authorities regarding e.g. planning of the official controls or “granting” market access to products or operators. Third Party Certification is not meant to substitute to the responsibilities of competent authority but is increasingly recognised by a number of them as an important element, which not only supports their enforcement role, but can also help setting state-of-the-art practices at global level and as such facilitate understanding and exchanges at international level."

The Global Milling Conference takes place on Monday February 15, 2016 from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM GST at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.
